A Spring Update from InterestEd

I wanted to share my latest InterestEd newsletter with you. It’s been a while since my last one, and this felt like a good moment to pause and pull everything together.

This update includes my recent Edutopia article, a few blog posts I’ve written, and some of the ideas that have been shaping my work lately. I also included a simple teaching shift you can try right away, along with a few personal updates and a look at what I’ve been building behind the scenes.

This summer has been a whirlwind of family adventures, personal growth, and, of course, a bit of chaos.

The InterestEd Insight — April Update Hi, Friends! It’s been a while since I last checked in. I think my last newsletter went out in the fall… and now we’re somehow in April! Over here, it’s been a full stretch of family life, work, and a lot of behind-the-scenes projects. Not always visible, but meaningful. I wanted to share a few updates and things I’ve been working on. Enjoy the April update! 🌿 Laura Personal and Family Updates On the personal side, it’s been a really full season for our family. I officially became a Wisconsin Master Gardener, which has been a work in progress for about a year. I’ve always loved the idea of nurturing growth, and I’m itching to get in the garden once it warms up. The girls have all been busy in their own ways, and it’s been fun watching each of them lean into what they love. Amita just finished driver’s ed, which feels like a big milestone for all of us. Ashima has been putting in so much time preparing for her music competitions, and it’s been really special to see her dedication there. And Aryana recently completed a science fair project on microgreens that took a lot of hard work and was amazing! Ridhwi and I are doing our best to keep up with it all while also trying to pause and enjoy this season as it’s happening. A few updates… I had an article published through Edutopia - exciting! I’ve continued building out InterestEd with new resources, blog content, and ideas. My online curriculum store is now open and growing, and I’ve also started adding resources to my Teachers Pay Teachers site. I’ve been working on expanding my writing projects, including journals, student resources, and practical tools for educators. And I’m continuing my Master’s in Educational Psychology, which shapes how I think about teaching, learning, and support. Featured Writing Incorporating Academic Challenges to Support Gifted Students This piece focuses on something I care deeply about: moving beyond “more work” and instead creating meaningful challenge through depth, flexibility, and thoughtful instructional design. What I’m Creating This has been a big focus for me over the last several months. I’ve been building resources that are practical, flexible, and easy to use right away. Most of all, they are high-quality for all learners and work the hard-earned money spent by educators. My online curriculum store is now open with new resources added, and I’ve also started sharing materials on Teachers Pay Teachers, as well as my existing Etsy and Amazon shops. This is something I’ve been wanting to grow for a long time, and it’s exciting to see it starting to come together (albeit slowly). More to come soon! Blog Highlights The Hidden Cost of Underchallenge in Schools This is something that’s been on my mind lately. Sometimes we assume a student is disengaged or struggling, but when you look more closely, it’s actually the task itself that’s falling flat. This post is really about noticing that… and about the psychological effects of curriculum decisions in schools. {Read more →} What to Do When Students Finish Early: The Depth Menu Too often, teachers are asked to differentiate for students with different lesson plans. Instead of giving more work, I’ve found it’s much more effective to shift the kind of thinking we’re asking for.
