At the heart of my work is a commitment to helping students learn in ways that are meaningful, engaging, and appropriately challenging.

I’m Laura Mukerji, an educator, educational consultant, writer, and lifelong learner living in Central Wisconsin. Education has been a part of my life for nearly two decades, but my path through it has been anything but linear. I’ve taught in traditional classrooms and virtual schools, worked in learning centers, designed curriculum, coached educators, and spent eight years homeschooling my three daughters. Each of those experiences has shaped the way I think about teaching and learning today.

One of the things I’ve learned is that there is rarely one “right” way for a student to learn. Students need different levels of challenge, different amounts of support, and different opportunities to explore, create, and take ownership of their learning. I’m especially interested in what happens when we stop asking how students can better fit into the learning we’ve designed and start asking how we can design learning that better responds to the students in front of us.

Today, I work with schools, educators, families, and organizations to create more flexible, meaningful, and appropriately challenging educational experiences for all learners. My work is grounded in educational psychology and research and focuses on making intentional decisions about instruction, curriculum, and the systems that support students. Gifted education is one of my areas of specialization, but the larger questions that drive my work apply to every learner.

Writing and learning are also important parts of who I am professionally. I contribute to national education platforms, including Edutopia, and I’m currently pursuing a master’s degree in Educational Psychology while continuing my work in instructional coaching. I love digging into research, but I’m most interested in what happens next: What does this actually mean for a teacher, a student, a family, or a school?

My background includes:

  • Published author and professional learning presenter

  • Certified English/Language Arts teacher and Gifted & Talented educator

  • Board member for the Wisconsin Association for Talented and Gifted (WATG) and the Wausau Conservatory of Music

  • Curriculum designer and creator of classroom and professional learning resources

  • Currently pursuing a master’s degree in Educational Psychology

  • Eight years of homeschooling my three daughters

Beyond the work

Education is a big part of my life, but certainly not all of it. I live in Central Wisconsin with my husband and our three daughters, and much of my time outside of work revolves around family, music, art, and whatever project I’ve decided to take on next.

I love painting, embroidery, gardening, cooking, reading, and learning new things. Our house is also home to a dog, a cat, and an arguably unreasonable number of houseplants. I’m naturally curious and tend to have several projects going at once.

I like having a full life, with work that matters to me, plenty of time with my family, and room for the creative interests and projects that I genuinely enjoy.
